The majority of bike accidents happen in urban areas where most cycling takes place. About 75% of accidents involving bicycles happen at, or near a road junction. In periods of reduced visibility, such as at night, or in poor weather conditions, a bicycle viewed from the side is virtually invisible to oncoming traffic. This is most evident at T-junctions. Roundabouts are also areas of high risk for cycle riders. This is regardless of whether the bike is fitted with cycle lights.
Any device that increases a cyclist's visibility from the side is obviously a great advantage.
